lunchmeeting: public commissions

Today we gave the lunch meeting focusing on Public Commissions. 7 invited guests came (4 from my list) and we were 5 artists presenting our public commissions and idea sketches. The invited guests came from the departments responsible for commissioned art for schools and preschools in Göteborg, project leaders for public art for the region and the national art council. That means just the people we wanted to reach... But if this will generate any jobs for us only time will tell.

First every artist gave a short presentation (here Ulla Hultberg) -

then we served lunch and sat down and talked a bit. I asked many questions about their ways of working.( I'm starting to figure out the system).

I felt pleased with my presentation - I made it brief, I got some smiles and even a laughter. I showed my mural from Lekstorp and some glass and enamel samples. The fun things was that when being introduced to me the woman from the Art council said - "Ah, so you are Alexandra". Her studio neighbour took my screenprinting workshop last weekend and had talked about me (luckily she had been very pleased)! Göteborg is such a small city ...

oh, I feel like I've been getting SOOO serious lately.

Of course that is good if you want to advance - But I sure feel like being totally crazy and irresponsible after all this focus...

I wish you the best of luck with this. Maybe you feel you've been serious, but you've also been very interesting. For most people, things don't just happen, one needs to work hard in order to achieve his goals.

"So you are Alexandra", yes, that Alexandra who's have a dark sense of humor, tries to seriously develope an artistic life that could sustain her, and at the same time has a girl inside dying to scream, jump, shout and do all kinds of crazy stuff. That Alexandra. Nice meeting you :)
Good luck!!!

It looks like it was a good presentation - and I'm hoping with you that it will bring in work! One thing I've learnt about freelancing is that you may pitch for a job, hear nothing for months (or someone else gets it) but if it was a good pitch people remember you and you may get a surprise call a year down the line. So hang in there!!
