Saturday and fairy tales

Yesterday I saw the Elsa Beskow exhibition at the Watercolour museum in Skärhamn. Her children's books contain fairy tale worlds. But the heat and the bright light of the day was very far away from fairy tales. It felt like two different worlds ... or so I thought until I saw the water lily.

Net Art

with the Net Art Generator you can create art pieces from images on internet. The program uses google and you enter a title that will be used as a search word. Several images will then be combined/merged. I of course tried it out with my own name as the title - and voilà: the two art pieces in this post were generated. (Most pictures turned out to be from my 2 years of blogging. These were the best ones though... some were really boring )

inventory

Tomorrow I'll be moving all my supplies and so on to my new studio. The studio won't be ready for working there until mid August, but storage is possible from now. So I'll make my mother happy - she has let me temporarily store "my studio" in her attic - and do this NOW. (I'm keeping some material for working over summer though)

Today I'm doing some inventory and getting rid of old stuff. Some of the things have been with me since 1993 and my first studio ... I've just kept moving them to the next studio and the next one... without touching it in between. Be gone unnecessary things and lousy old art pieces!

disturbing butterflies

I shouldn't leave the window open when I'm painting; all these insects (today it was butterflies) seem to be attracted by the strong colours in my paintings. It can be annoying. One of the girls in a painting got really pissed off after lunch.

white vibes

The painting formerly know as Messenger is back in business again. Though now I've reached the same state in three paintings: decision time. So I decided to leave that for tomorrow and checked out the gallery where I'll exhibit in a year instead - with nice white wooden floor.

Tomorrow's big question: take some decisions - or postpone it and start another painting?

yellow inspiration

I just felt that there should be this vivid yellow colour - like an inspiration. Then I took a photo of my work in progress ... and realized where the inspiration came from: the coffee cup.

from my point of view

Starting a painting is the most fun of it all. Anything is possible. But when you realize that you are getting somewhere with it, it is so easy to lose some of the fun. There are days when I just want to start a new painting and another one and another one ...

over the bridge and back

Today I biked over the bridge to the other side of the river Göta to have a look at my new studio. I'm not going to be able to work there until middle August (it's going to be painted white and fixed up a bit) - but it's happening! Eric Magassa has done a great job studio hunting for us and it's going to end up being a couple of separate studios sharing kitchen and bathrooms. Thank you Eric! I'm just so happy about it!

long time no paint

This spring I've mostly worked with other materials than painting, but today it was time again. It feels gooooood...

a day off

Today I took a day off: seeing exhibits, making quick watercolour sketches in the sun and a drinking coffee with Camilla... Then vin moussant was waiting for me in the fridge when I came home. So my interpretation for the weekword wonderland will not be ready until tomorrow!

anticlimax

This morning I was so excited to try to cut my "fly" and some other images on the cutting plotter at KKV. But no. I had forgotten the tiny, but oh so important, step "export - paths to illustrator" before saving the damned files...and I don't live next door to KKV so I couldn't go home and fix it.

Luckily I found the image I had worked on at the course in the KKV computer's trash and could at least repeat all the steps to operate the machine - so I know that by heart. I will now never ever forget "export paths to illustrator".

Starting point: an ink drawing on an engraving. Then scanned, modified a bit in photoshop, printed, a bit of extra manual drawing, scanned again - and simplified even more in the computer. For now "the fly" is resting on a usb. Tomorrow I'll continue on the cutting plotter at KKV.

sketchbook

bringing the sketchbook when going to an amusement park with a child is very optimistic thinking. I'll better return on my own to get up that speed in my sketches. It's like practicing scales.

Though I must admit I did cheat a bit ... I made this image for the scavanger project last autumn. With moving and everything I thought that if I didn't get the time to make something new this week I had already a solution!

learning new things

Last weekend I took a course in how to master the cutting plotter at KKV. It's amazing what you can do with it; cut any letters and shapes, big or small. You can also use the cutting plotter to get a new hair cut really cheap (see instructions on top photo).

I'm planning to use it for cutting stencils for commissions, but also my own art. It's very tempting to get into street art thanks to the stickers you can make with the plotter. So I'm not going to show you what I made (better not leaving any evidence here). Just keep your eyes open! (The photo of the hand shows an artist collegues working with her image. )
