Fish & Bird

not a good idea

I am going to participate in a small but fun exhibition (starting september 25th 2010) together with 9 other artists from the Netherlands, Spain, USA and Australia. Each artist will make a graphical work on the theme Of Fishes And Birds. The sheets will be made into one 10 page harmonica book, and the book will travel to different spots on earth... Do you want to know who are participating (you might know some of them)? Check our blog Of Fishes and Birds

Tomorrow I'm off to Lidköping (another town) to guest teach at the Pattern Design Program at Formakademin.

alphabet soap

another of my images for the scavenger project: alphabet soap. Ok - it was supposed to be alphabet soup, but I thought this was more fun. My contribution to the project was posted last Friday so now I can concentrate on something else: my artistic statement...

how to: disappointment

In today's "how to" we are going to discuss how to deal with disappointments. Like when you for example don't get a job you thought you would get.

make figures symbolizing your disappointment - or that stupid xxxxx who didn't appreciate you or even gave you a fair chance.

make a world for your disappointments (or that idiot) - and turn it on fire!

BURN!
BURN BURN YOU M----f---r!

When you now have dealt with your disappointment in a mature way - put the feeling away in a little box (that is - the ashes.) - and do not open it again. It is OK to look at the photos though.

|for anyone worried about me and how I handle disappointments in life:these photos are for the scavenger project. It is how I interpret Fear and The end of the world. Though I must admit that burning things make you feel better when you're disappointed and angry.|

Tomorrow I'll be back to my squares. They dry so slowly.
Oh - I almost forgot: Mankind Mag's new Issue Handmade is out!

wild beasts

Another of my interpretations for the scavenger project: no 6. wild beasts.

...so what about the job interview?
It was my first real job interview in six years: so I babbled. I think I made quite a whimsical impression. Anyhow - I am still pleased with the art activities I designed and I know I would do an outstanding job if they hire me. (nothing wrong with the self-confidence)

Or maybe there is an even better job out there waiting for me - and this was my opportunity to learn by my mistakes?

Thank you all for crossing your fingers for me!

childhood memories

Yesterday my funny eye had a post about how you can challenge yourself. You can challenge yourself to really see, to notice things - or to work in a more creative way with materials and ideas. I signed up for the Scavenger Project because I thought it was a fun idea - and then I realized I would have very little time to work on the list (surprise?). So I gave myself some limitations to challenge myself and solve the time-issue. My contributions should be:
  • idea- based
  • using simple "childish" materials or in art-context unusual materials
  • be fast to create when the idea was once there
  • not take time from my other work (ideas should be worked on when playing with my son, running or cooking etc)
  • be childish (preferably not cynic)
The photos above show how I interpret "childhood memories". Only one of the photos should be used - which one do you prefer?

(by the way: the cats from the other day were also part of this project)

scavenger project

last week I got my envelop from the US with the instruction for the Scavenger project. There is still time to sign up!

The scavenger project is run by art house and design for mankind. This is how they describe the project: "We're making a book and we need your help! We're going to send you a list of 24 things which will end up being the 24 chapters of the book. Each chapter is a reference to a moment, scenario, or item and we need your help visually representing each item. Every participant who sends back their images will be guaranteed at least one published photo in the book!"

and - of course - there is a flickr group for the project.

on my table

My son found me a lost rose on the sidewalk and some friends gave us a really good wine (not for the son though).

Design for Mankind
and art house launched the scavenger project yesterday - go and participate. I will!
