Friday was the last day of the screen printing course in big format that I've been teaching. We finished off with a two hour exhibition at Friday night. Unfortunately I've been too busy to be able to let you in on this in time - as I also had to finish some things for both my commissioned art piece and send some important applications last week.
But tomorrow I'll post some photos from my very talented students' exhibition!

The summer course in big format screen printing began it's second printing period this week. I so enjoy seeing what my students are coming up with and how they start mastering the technique - but I sure am wasted after these long days ...
Friday next week they'll exhibit their work. I'll be back with more info about it later

Today my students had their last day printing in the first part of the summer course. They made a long print together (approx 12 meters) and they made test prints on different materials and tried different ways of working. Basically this first part was about learning how to use the workshops, what's specific with big format printing, different approaches to preparing originals and how it is to print on different materials ... In August they will have their long printing period - and I'm looking forward to seeing what they will come up with!

For the third year in a row I'm teaching the summer course Big Format screen printing for HDK in collaboration with KKV. Today was our second day printing at KKV and my students are already getting into the flow!
I'm really enjoying teaching this course, but the first days are really exhausting for me; I need to be everywhere and notice everything. (And then it was my birthday today)

Summer will be here faster than you might think ...
- You can already now apply for the course in screen printing big format that I will teach at HDK during June and August! The course is in collaboration with KKV (artists' collective workshops) where the actual printing will take place.

Friday night we had the opening - and the only 3 hours out-door exhibition - presenting the results from the summer course I've been teaching ("Big format screen printing and its spatial possibilities"). Below some glimpses from the exhibition and the fantastic weather conditions. We had sun, we had rainbows, we had glittering heavy rain in sun light, we had sun set sun coloring the exhibition in warm yellow, we had dramatic spotlights created by the sun ... (we had a roof ...)

On Friday my screen printing students will present their work in an Exhibition we call X (marking the spot as it is a site specific exhibition). The exhibition will be open at 17:00-20:00, in the ruins after Älvsborgs Fästning (a fort) - if you can make it you are very welcome! (If not I'll post some photos here for you to see)
... my feet are sore and I am totally wasted. These are long and busy days for me ...

For me photography is about noticing things. Like when teaching my screen printing course these two weeks - and noticing magic temporary side effects. Like how it looks on the plastic for fitting the prints - in the moment of cleaning...

The summer course in big format screen printing is in on it's second week. (I'm therefore kind of busy.) This year's theme is the exhibition place itself - the ruin after the old fort of Elfsborg - and the site specific possibilities there (contextual and/or formal). Today a historian gave us a lecture and a tour. I'm looking forward to seeing what my students will come up with in August!

Even though summer might feel very far away right now, it will come sooner than you think. And I'm happy to again teach a summer course in big-format screen print at the design school (HDK). I'll be back with more information about the course when it's made public (don't tell anyone I told you ...). |

| The installation/exhibit took place by the old Fortress Älvsborg (ruins). First we had been thinking about using the whole place, but decided on mostly being under the roof protecting what's left of the fortress wall. Great place for exhibiting pieces loosely based on the Tempest! What I love the most about screenprinting is the possibility to mimic the expression of other techniques and the possibility to be applied to almost any kind of flat surface. You can do almost anything with screenprinting, a point proven by my students in this exhibition. I so enjoyed teaching this course - Thank you girls! |
