artists meeting children

On Saturday opens an exhibition about Art for Children (pedagogic art projects/public art for schools) at KC-Väst. I am participating with my mural for a the School of Lekstorp (but just a photo of it ... I couldn’t get the school into the gallery). Invitations and posters by me.

Please be seated

Last Friday I assisted Ewa Carlsson in hanging her exhibition Please be seated at Grafik i Väst (though she managed fine hanging the exhibit together with her daughter. I just helped writing the price list). It's a great little exhibit so go and see it if you have the chance. I'm especially fond of Ewa's old ladies with handbags!

You will be able to see all her her exhibit on line at Grafik i Västs website later in the week.

after the opening

Thank you all who came yesterday! It looks like no one came when you see my photos - but it's hard to be the photographer at your own opening. It's easier afterwards (click on images to see bigger). Want to see what I looked like? Camilla took some photos of me.

Invitation

My invitation cards are ready! The opening isn't until the 21 of March, but I would like to invite everyone to come already now - as you can win a superhero t-shirt (printed by me of course) if you show up at the opening dressed like one! So start making your costumes. For those who are less exhibitionist: bring a child in superhero outfit!

You can of course count on me being a superhero for the occasion.

decisions

So it's going to be "Superheroes" - plan B - for sure at my exhibition. Today I couldn't postpone the decision any longer: invitation cards have to be printed. I have more than enough material to chose in between as the gallery is small.

This is going to be the first time I'll exhibit my enamels - like the superheroes here - and the girls I made last summer will get a makeover to become super as well (I actually find them a bit boring the way they are now). Sometimes a little extra pressure can make you take decisions and advance!

seeing faces

LänkToday I visited two exhibits about portraiture in one way or the other: Annie Leibovitz at National Portrait Gallery and Dryden Goodwin at the Photographer's Gallery.

Annie Leibovitz is a good photographer and I had been looking forward to seeing the exhibit. But I must say I do not really see her as an artist - her photography is never about representation or being experimental. I was surprised to see that her photos from her private life were so much like everyone else's photos. Nothing extra there. She made herself, in some way, a comparison between herself and Richard Avedon - he was working with commissioned photography and still being respected as an artist. But Annie Leibovitz is never on the border to cruel or critical in her photography. Neither do I see poetry. I miss that extra layering.

Some years ago, in Paris, I saw an exhibit of Lartigue's work - I was really touched by it and his photos. I can close my eyes and I see them again. That's a photographer!

Dryden Goodwin's exhibit (both photos) was on the other hand all about representation, about depicting faces in photo and drawing. His faces were not portraiture of special or famous people, but of humans. Even before reading on his website about Giacometti's influence, I could see it. Several people were there drawing faces, like the girl sitting on the floor. I also felt the urge to draw, to create. Interesting.

KKV exhibit

This is the invitation (not mine) to an exhibit about KKV at Frölunda Kulturhus. It opens tomorrow the 15 of March.

I've written about KKV before - it's a collective workshop for artists (print on paper, textile, casting, carpentry, metal, ceramics, glass and enamels) - where I work with my copper graphics, screen prints and enamels. I was on the board for five years but quite last year as we try to rotate people to keep it "fresh". The exhibit is about the different workshops at KKV, commissioned art made there - and an exchange project with two other similar collective artists' workshops from the north and middle of Sweden.

promoting myself

Today I had a breakfast meeting at 08:30 at a company where I exhibit some paintings and prints through Art in Motion. Art in Motion exhibits art from a new artist every month at companies. Part of the deal is that the artist gives a short introduction of her/his art at an informal morning meeting. I might have been a bit intense (more than usual) as I had drunk too much coffee to become nice and perky (zombie before that).

I do many things to promote myself, but very few give any result. But I believe that persistence will pay off. One day.

censorship?

On Saturday the group exhibit Censorship will open at Grafik i Väst. Censorship has before mostly been about sex (which still upset people very much), but has lately been discussed mostly in relation to Islam. In that context it's not just about embarrassing some people - but about risking political relations - and Fatwa
My contribution for the exhibit has that in mind, but is also a cloaked figure just like my superheroes (females). Saturday is International Women's Day!

Art Talk with Makan Emadi about Emadi's veiled pinups (interesting idea, but not very good art in my opinion) at myartspace. Manfred Kielnhofer's time guardians (at Art Moco) show another aspect of cloaked figures, but these don't seem feminine.

hanging exhibit

My exhibit opens tomorrow at Konstnärshuset in Kungsbacka - by then you can (hopefully) read some words (in Swedish) about the exhibit and see some of the art pieces here.

The post was faster to Portugal then I thought - Ana Ventura already got my mobile (check also her nice blog).

But when will I get mine - and made by whom?

time flies

Oooooops. My exhibit at Konstnärshuset opens in one and a half week - and I almost forgot to send the invitation cards (real and e-mail)... I have to fix it tonight!

preparing exhibition

Today I went to Kungsbacka (just outside Göteborg) to check out the gallery where I'll exhibit in a month. It's just one small room (19 m2), but it's anyhow always better to go and see the place to be able to plan the exhibit. I have a lot of material to chose in between and my work demand space - so I'll just show a few art pieces.

Right now Berit Jonsvik is exhibiting there. The second photo shows her triptyk in concrete - my favorite art piece in the exhibit.
